Mining company Sio Silica has proposed a sand-extraction operation in southeastern Manitoba, offering the Brokenhead Ojibway Nation a five percent share of profits, which could amount to $20 million annually once fully operational. The silica sand found in the region is noted for its high purity, at 99.85 percent.

Explain It To Me Like I’m 5: Sio Silica, a company that wants to dig up special sand, has promised to share some of the money they make with a nearby Native American group called Brokenhead Ojibway Nation, saying they could earn a lot of money each year when the sand digging is working well.
