Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Northern Regions on Boxing Day

The top of New Zealand’s North Island, including Auckland, is under a severe storm watch from 2 PM to 8 PM, with risks of flooding and landslides due to heavy rain. Key holiday areas such as Northland, Great Barrier Island, Coromandel Peninsula, Bay of Plenty, and Rotorua are affected. The MetService warns of potential flash flooding and hazardous driving conditions as thunderstorms are expected. Eastern regions of the South Island also face severe thunderstorm alerts starting from 1 PM.
