The CRTC has defined Canadian content (Cancon) to require human creative control, moving away from AI involvement. The updated points system now includes more key creative roles and allows bonus points for identifiable Canadian cultural elements. This decision, part of the Online Streaming Act, also mandates large streaming platforms to disclose their broadcasting revenues and Canadian content spending. Additionally, productions must have at least 20% of copyright held by Canadians to qualify as Cancon.
