Canada’s Predicted Flu Season and Vaccine Mismatch

A shift in the dominant influenza strain may reduce vaccine effectiveness this season in Canada, warns Dr. Isaac Bogoch from the University of Toronto. Despite potential mismatches, he stresses that getting the flu shot is crucial for protection against the three circulating strains: H1N1, H3N2, and Influenza B. Recent data shows a rise in flu cases, primarily H1N1, but concerns grow over the H3N2 strain’s mutation. Comparatively, Australia experienced its worst flu season in 2025, highlighting the need for vigilance.
