Cape Verde storms, originating from clusters of thunderstorms off the African coast, account for about 85% of major hurricanes impacting North America, though less than 10% actually reach the U.S. These storms thrive in warm Atlantic waters during August and September, with only one or two forming annually, while notable examples include the Galveston and Okeechobee hurricanes.
