Ethan Elharrar, a student at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU), faced isolation and hostility after the onset of the Israel-Hamas conflict in October 2023. Initially excited about his new life and studies, he became a target for anti-Israel sentiments on campus, experiencing verbal attacks and feeling unsafe as a Jewish student. Despite the challenges, he found a sense of community within TMU’s small Jewish group, where he connected with fellow students like Liat Schwartz, who also witnessed a dramatic shift in campus dynamics post-conflict.
