A class action lawsuit against Canada’s Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program (SAWP) has been authorized to proceed in Ontario. The suit alleges that the federal government improperly collected employment insurance premiums from workers who cannot access EI benefits, and claims the program discriminates against Mexican and Caribbean laborers. Organizers seek changes to improve workers’ rights and access to benefits, as around 75,000 individuals are expected to be involved in the case.
