On March 13, 2023, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, formerly Prince Andrew, was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office for allegedly sharing confidential information with Jeffrey Epstein while serving as a trade envoy, marking the first arrest of a senior royal since 1647. King Charles III was unaware of the arrest prior to its occurrence. The anti-monarchy group Republic claimed responsibility for the arrest, stating they reported Andrew to the police. Republic’s CEO, Graham Smith, indicated that further investigations into other royals may follow.
