Poll shows western alienation at four-year low
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

A recent Pollara Strategic Insights poll shows improving perceptions of the federal government in Western Canada, particularly in Alberta, where approval rose 13 points since late 2023. Half of Western Canadians feel the federal government is attentive to their needs, with Alberta’s Premier Danielle Smith credited for urging Prime Minister Mark Carney to address regional grievances. Carney’s economic policies and gestures, such as an MOU with Alberta on energy development, are resonating positively. Despite lingering Western alienation, support for separatism remains low, dispelling concerns over increased secession sentiments after Carney’s election.
