Dr. Mariia Kuzeikiv, a surgeon from Ukraine, is in Hamilton through the ASSIST program to enhance her skills in treating severe war injuries. Initiated in 2022 by Dr. Mark Pahuta, this initiative aims to assist Ukrainian doctors as the conflict escalates, with over 14,500 civilian casualties reported since February 2022. Kuzeikiv’s training will enable her to return to Ukraine and effectively aid victims of the ongoing invasion. She is in Canada for six months, focusing on learning transferable surgical techniques.
