Software company Ubisoft has shut down its Halifax studio, resulting in 71 job losses, as part of its efforts to improve efficiency and reduce costs. The studio was working on Assassin’s Creed Rebellion, which has seen declining revenue since its 2018 release. T.J. Gillis, a senior developer, expressed concerns over the timing of the closure, particularly following the studio’s recent unionization. The union, CWA Canada, plans to seek clarification from Ubisoft regarding the reasons for the abrupt shutdown.
