Ontario Officer Exonerated in First Nation Man’s Shooting Death
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Ontario’s police watchdog, the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), has cleared an officer of wrongdoing in the shooting death of 23-year-old Tyresse Kenny Padro Cree Roundsky, who was shot in Wapekeka First Nation on July 31, 2025, after approaching the officer with a knife. Although the SIU found no basis for criminal charges, its director noted a significant delay in administering first aid to Roundsky post-shooting. Investigations involved interviews with 18 civilian witnesses, and the findings indicated the officer acted in self-defense. The incident is part of a troubling pattern, as three men connected to the community have been shot and killed by police in recent years, all cleared of wrongdoing by the SIU.
