Two sisters have narrowly avoided prison after violent incidents on a train and at a station.

Airdrie Sheriff Court heard that Shannon Greenhorn brandished a screwdriver at terrified children.

Her sibling Courtney demanded money from other passengers during a drunken escapade on a train.

The court was told that Shannon Greenhorn flew into a rage after her sister was called a tomboy.

She confronted two girls and two boys as the innocent youngsters waited on a platform at Sunnyside station in Coatbridge.

Lauren Cole, prosecuting, said Greenhorn told the group that girls at a shop had laughed at Courtney and boasted she had stabbed one of them.

The fiscal stated: “She lifted up her jumper and showed the witnesses a screwdriver in the waistband of her jogging trousers.

“She said, ‘I’ll f*****g use this to stab you if you are taking the p**s’.

“Greenhorn then took out the screwdriver and raised it above her head in a threatening manner.”

She also snatched a phone from one of the boys and wouldn’t give it back.

Two of the girls managed to flee and contacted the police. Officers arrested Greenhorn at the station and found the screwdriver in a bin.

Greenhorn, 27, admitted threatening or abusive behaviour and carrying an offensive weapon on August 19, 2022.

Courtney Greenhorn, 25, admitted threatening passengers on a train travelling between Easterhouse and Coatbridge two weeks previously.

The court heard she ran through compartments in a “heavily intoxicated” state, asking fellow passengers for money and shouting abuse.

She called a teenage boy a paedophile and threatened to “smash” a man as he was getting off the train.

The sisters, formerly of Dunbeth Road, Coatbridge, and now said to be living in Glasgow, appeared in court as first offenders.

Sheriff Paul Haran said, despite their lack of previous convictions, he had considered jailing them.

Shannon Greenhorn, who gave birth to her first child shortly before Christmas, was instead ordered to do 120 hours of unpaid work and her sister must complete 75 hours.

They will both be under social work supervision for 18 months.
