Tammy Oliver-McCurdie, who lost her sister, brother-in-law, and niece in the 2020 Nova Scotia mass shooting, expressed her grief after a recent school shooting in Tumbler Ridge, B.C., where eight people, mainly children, were killed by an armed 18-year-old. In a supportive statement, she emphasized the importance of holding loved ones close and seeking help from community resources. Oliver-McCurdie highlighted the lasting psychological impact of such tragedies and the need for ongoing support. Social worker Serena Lewis noted that the initial shock of loss often gives way to deeper grief, calling for respectful, personal outreach to the affected community.
