Transgender Teen Denied Request to Stay in Ontario Women’s Prison

A transgender woman, Michelle Autumn, convicted of first-degree murder for killing 13-year-old Nina Courtepatte, lost her legal bid to remain in a women’s prison and was transferred to Millhaven Institution, a male facility. Justice Kristin Muszynski upheld the transfer, citing Autumn’s problematic behavior and previous diagnoses, while noting she had gender-based accommodations in place. Autumn had a history of inappropriate conduct and threats towards other inmates, leading to multiple institutional challenges. Following issues in her previous placement, she was moved back to a women’s prison but continued to display disruptive behavior.
