Small business carbon tax rebate won’t be taxed: Freeland

The Canada Carbon Rebate is providing $2.5 billion to small businesses, with the rebate being tax-free according to Chrystia Freeland. However, the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) was initially told by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) that the rebate would be tax-free, but later informed by the Department of Finance that it would be considered taxable government assistance. Despite this, a source in Freeland’s office clarified that the Finance Minister’s tweet was not a reversal of the decision.
