Shopify president Harley Finkelstein is keen on acquiring the recently removed Hudson’s Bay sign from the former flagship store in Toronto, viewing it as a symbol of Canadian entrepreneurial spirit. He expressed his desire to buy and display the sign for inspiration to startup founders, highlighting Hudson’s Bay Company’s historical significance since its founding in 1670. Finkelstein reached out to local heritage officials and federal Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture, Marc Miller, for assistance. His initiative received support from fellow entrepreneurs, including Jeremie Romand, who suggested revitalizing the Hudson’s Bay brand to aid Canadian entrepreneurs.
