The Saskatchewan provincial government announced plans to evaluate the development of large nuclear reactors while continuing work on small modular reactors (SMRs). Minister for SaskPower, Jeremy Harrison, emphasized the collaborative site selection process, estimating that large-scale nuclear decisions could take over 15 years, necessitating immediate action. The first SMR project is set to begin near Estevan later this year, powered by locally sourced uranium. Premier Scott Moe highlighted the importance of nuclear power for the province’s future energy strategy.
