Police Commission reviews appeal of officer dismissed over Hells Angels connection

A former Saskatoon police officer, Robbie Taylor, is appealing his dismissal after being terminated for his friendship with a Hells Angels associate. Police Chief Cam McBride fired Taylor in March 2025, deeming him “unsuitable” for the force due to this association. At a recent appeal hearing, Taylor’s legal team argued that the decision should be overturned, claiming an allegation of abuse of process related to a complaint against Taylor was not disclosed to his lawyers until later in the proceedings. They argued this lack of disclosure hindered their ability to prepare an adequate defense. The Saskatoon Police Service’s lawyer contended that the relevant information was not documented in a shareable format and maintained that Taylor should have understood the implications of his friendship with an organized crime affiliate. The Saskatchewan Police Commission panel has reserved its decision on the appeal.

Why It Matters

The case underscores the ongoing scrutiny of police conduct and accountability, particularly regarding relationships with organized crime. Police departments across Canada are increasingly addressing concerns about officers’ associations with criminal elements, as these relationships can undermine public trust. The outcome of Taylor’s appeal may influence future cases involving police discipline and the standards of conduct expected from law enforcement personnel. Additionally, the handling of information during disciplinary hearings raises questions about due process and transparency within police organizations.
