N.L. Reduces Power Usage Amid Hydro Station Repairs
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro reported successful ice removal efforts at the Bay d’Espoir power plant, which had to shut down due to a frazil ice blockage for the first time since 1967. Divers were deployed to clear the ice, and by Sunday, several units were gradually being brought back online, though power conservation warnings remained in effect. Municipalities and businesses are responding by closing facilities and reducing power consumption to avoid outages similar to the 2014 DarkNL event. The City of Corner Brook and other municipalities have implemented generator power for essential services while encouraging businesses to reduce electricity use.
