Doctors express concerns over Ottawa’s plan to eliminate prescription software

A pair of Ontario family doctors, Dr. Colin Bolzon and Dr. Rebecca Robinson, are facing a return to faxing prescriptions after Health Canada Infoway announced it will shut down the PrescribeIT electronic prescribing system on May 29. The doctors, who manage 3,400 patients, expressed concerns that the loss of this efficient tool could hinder patient care and increase the risk of prescription fraud. MP Andrew Lawton has called for clearer communication from the federal government regarding the future of electronic prescribing.
