Andrew Clarke, a British man, contacted Canadian Wendy Kauffmann via WhatsApp to share the story of her grandfather, Lionel Kauffman, who served alongside his father, Capt. Derek Clarke, in WWII. Both were severely wounded at the battle of Sedjenane in Tunisia and shared a hospital ward. This connection revealed long-hidden family history, including wartime letters written by Derek on Lionel’s behalf. The discovery rekindled a story Wendy thought was lost, deepening her family’s understanding of their past.
