Welland man accused in sex assault of young girl remanded into custody amid protests calling for harsher punishment

A 25-year-old Welland man, Daniel Senecal, has been remanded into custody after a bail hearing concerning charges of breaking and entering and aggravated sexual assault of a young girl. Protests demanding stricter sentencing for violent offenders took place outside the courthouse, where Senecal is scheduled to appear again on Oct. 15, amid controversy over his request to be transferred to a women’s prison.
