Netanyahu says Israel won’t allow Syrian forces ‘south of Damascus’

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu stated that Israel will not allow Syria’s new army or the insurgent group that ousted former President Assad to enter southern Damascus, with Israeli forces remaining in parts of southern Syria indefinitely. Defense Minister Katz emphasized Israel’s presence on Mt. Hermon and a buffer zone to protect communities and deter threats, despite calls for withdrawal from Syria’s new authorities and U.N. officials. Netanyahu’s government is under pressure to safeguard Israelis near the northern border and strengthen ties with the Druze community in southern Syria and Israel’s Golan Heights to prevent any threats.
