MP Lori Idlout joins Liberal Party from NDP

Nunavut MP Lori Idlout has switched allegiance from the NDP to the Liberal Party, a move announced by Interim NDP Leader Don Davies, who expressed disappointment. Idlout is the fourth MP to cross the floor recently, aiding Prime Minister Mark Carney in approaching a majority in the House of Commons. This shift comes ahead of key byelections and amidst Carney’s focus on Arctic sovereignty and Indigenous issues, including significant funding for Inuit programs. Idlout’s departure reduces the NDP caucus to six members.
