The five candidates for the NDP leadership, including frontrunner Avi Lewis, will participate in their second official debate in British Columbia’s Lower Mainland. The English-language debate, taking place on Thursday evening, is expected to be more intense than the previous French debate in Montreal, as candidates aim to make a strong impression before the March voting. Edmonton MP Heather McPherson and union leader Rob Ashton are considered key contenders in the race, while Tanille Johnston, the first Indigenous woman to run for leader, and organic farmer Tony McQuail will also participate. The debate, moderated by journalist Hannah Thibedeau, begins at 8 p.m. ET and will not have a live audience.
