A former Ottawa woman, Ada Guan, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for manslaughter in the death of her five-year-old daughter, Chloe Guan-Branch, who died from a ruptured bladder after being denied medical care for six days. The mother and her boyfriend, Justin Cassie-Berube, failed to seek help due to fears of revealing ongoing abuse. Chloe passed away on May 15, 2020, while Guan watched TV, marking a tragic end to her life. Guan’s plea deal followed Cassie-Berube’s earlier conviction and 14-year sentence for similar charges.
