Marineland plans to euthanize 30 belugas in Niagara Falls
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Marineland, the now-closed amusement park in Niagara Falls, Ontario, has threatened to euthanize 30 belugas and four dolphins unless the federal government permits their export to U.S. aquariums. During a meeting with Fisheries Minister Joanne Thompson, Marineland set an “imminent” deadline for permit approval, citing plans for euthanasia if denied. The U.S. facilities approached for the animals, including Georgia Aquarium and Mystic Aquarium, have not confirmed acceptance plans. Animal rights group Animal Justice has urged the government to ensure any export conditions comply with Canadian law, emphasizing the need to protect the animals’ welfare post-export.
