A 64-year-old man from Quebec has become the first patient in North America to receive a regenerated liver, thanks to innovative technology called Liver Assist. Gérard Landry, who suffered from liver disease and cancer for 15 years, underwent the groundbreaking transplant at Montreal’s Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM). The Liver Assist machine allows doctors to treat a donated liver outside the body, improving its condition before transplantation.
