Lee Smolin, a prominent theoretical physicist and co-founder of the Perimeter Institute in Ontario, has paused his affiliation with the institute following revelations of his correspondence with Jeffrey Epstein, the late convicted sex offender. Despite no evidence of illegal activity, the 2013 communications contradict Smolin’s previous claims of limited contact after 2008. Perimeter Institute’s executive director stated that a review of the situation will take place. Smolin had previously received research funding from Epstein and described him as a friend in several emails.
