A Tory defence minister criticized national service before it was announced as an election pledge by Rishi Sunak.
If the prime minister wins, he plans to introduce a mandatory national service scheme.
The policy would require every 18-year-old to join the military or do community service one weekend a month.
However, defence minister Andrew Murrison stated there were currently “no plans” for such a scheme.
