NDP MP Lori Idlout Joins Liberals, Strengthening Carney’s Majority Position

New Democratic Party MP Lori Idlout has switched allegiance to the Liberals, a move that could help Prime Minister Mark Carney achieve a majority in the House of Commons if upcoming byelections favor his party. Interim NDP Leader Don Davies expressed disappointment, emphasizing that floor-crossing contradicts the party’s values. This shift leaves the NDP with only six seats while boosting the Liberals to 170, with three byelections scheduled for April 13 that could further alter the balance of power.
