The B.C. government has established an extortion advisory group to combat ongoing extortion attempts and violence against the South Asian community, led by former RCMP officer Paul Dadwal. Premier David Eby highlighted the group’s role in enhancing communication and addressing policing concerns. In 2025, Surrey recorded 132 extortion attempts, including 49 shootings, prompting calls for increased community support and resources from both provincial and federal governments. Eby emphasized the urgent need for security, particularly for families facing threats.
