Canada’s cyber defence agency warns that hackers are increasingly targeting water systems, urging utility companies to take the threat seriously. A new assessment from the Canadian Centre for Cyber Security highlights that state-backed hackers have likely accessed these networks and are maintaining a low profile. The report emphasizes the growing risk of ransomware and the need for robust cybersecurity measures, including evaluating the necessity of Internet connectivity for critical systems. Cyber centre officials stress that both state and non-state actors pose significant threats to water infrastructure across the country.
