This month, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) is issuing final Canada Carbon Rebate (CCR) payments but has identified potential overpayments to some individuals, requiring repayment. The rural supplement, a 20% increase for residents of small communities, will be affected, with notifications sent starting April 15. Following the termination of the consumer carbon tax by Prime Minister Mark Carney, the upcoming rebate will not be based on collected carbon tax revenues, potentially costing the federal government between $2.7 billion and $3 billion.
