China has rebuked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who alleged that Beijing is aware of at least 155 Chinese nationals fighting for Russia in Ukraine. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian urged parties to refrain from “irresponsible remarks” and emphasized that China instructs its citizens to avoid foreign conflicts. The remarks followed reports of a Chinese national captured by Ukraine, who reportedly paid a middleman to join the Russian army, highlighting concerns over foreign involvement in the conflict.
