Prime Minister Mark Carney announced plans to amend bail access laws, making it harder for violent repeat offenders to secure release, in response to rising crime concerns, particularly in the Greater Toronto Area. The forthcoming bill will introduce reverse onus provisions, end conditional sentences for sexual assault, and allocate $1.8 billion to the RCMP to enhance federal policing efforts.
