At Davos, Prime Minister Mark Carney emphasized Canada’s role as a responsible middle power amid globalization challenges, following a strategic partnership with China that reduced tariffs on electric vehicles and canola. Trump’s response was swift, threatening 100% tariffs on Canadian goods if Canada pursued further deals with China. Carney’s address and its implications for U.S.-Canada relations remain contentious, with calls for more strategic diplomacy.
