Black bear cub with burns is recovering

A severely burnt black bear cub, named Valkyrie, was rescued in December 2022 after being found hibernating in a slash pile near Dawson Creek, B.C. The Northern Lights Wildlife Society took the cub into care, where it is undergoing treatment for serious burns on its paws, face, and back. Valkyrie is healing well, and plans are in place for her gradual introduction to other bears, with hopes of releasing her back into the wild by June 2023. The cub was fortunate to be discovered, as she would not have survived the harsh winter temperatures otherwise.
