Six athletes from British Columbia have been selected for the inaugural Women’s Pro Baseball League (WPBL) set to debut in summer 2026 in Springfield, Illinois. The league, co-founded by Justine Siegal, aims to provide sustainable opportunities for women in baseball, a sport traditionally dominated by men. Players like Liz Gilder and Juliette Kladko express hope that this professional league will inspire more girls to pursue baseball, countering the trend of switching to softball. The WPBL marks the first pro women’s baseball league since the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League dissolved in 1954.
