Parks Canada restricts paddling at select lakes in Banff National Park

Parks Canada is implementing a ban on boats and watercraft at several lakes and rivers in Banff National Park, including Moraine Lake, Bow Lake, and Lake Minnewanka, starting this spring to combat the spread of aquatic invasive species like whirling disease. While swimming, snorkeling, and fishing without waders will still be allowed, motorboats that pass inspection will be permitted on Lake Minnewanka. The restrictions are designed to protect sensitive fish populations and will remain in effect indefinitely, as current measures have not sufficiently controlled the spread of invasive species.
