Mounties in B.C. will hold a news conference Tuesday to update on their provincial extortion task force, coinciding with Surrey police reporting their 35th suspected extortion case of the year following a shooting. The task force, formed in September, collaborates with various law enforcement agencies to address extortion, primarily affecting South Asian communities. Since its inception, 32 files have been managed, resulting in seven charges and the removal of nine foreign nationals from Canada. Assistant Commissioner John Brewer emphasized ongoing investigations to hold perpetrators accountable.
