British Columbians have declared 7,368 assault-style firearms in the first month of a national buyback program, trailing only Ontario’s 13,219 declarations. The program, which aims to collect and destroy over 136,000 banned firearms, runs until March 31, with a total of 32,000 declarations submitted nationwide. Participants can receive compensation ranging from $150 to nearly $10,000, but those who do not declare by the deadline face potential criminal liability.
