Alberta axes funding to Edmonton’s regional board

The Edmonton Metropolitan Region Board (EMRB) will no longer receive funding from the Alberta government starting in 2025, with Minister of Municipal Affairs Ric McIver announcing the change. The decision, which also makes membership voluntary instead of mandatory, has sparked concerns from EMRB chair Allan Gamble and Edmonton Coun. Andrew Knack about the future of the organization and provincial government overreach. Despite the financial setback, Gamble expressed determination to plan for the EMRB’s future in light of the funding cut.
