The iconic Como Gardens in Melbourne’s outer east featuring a miniature train line and vintage car museum is revving up for a sale. The 6.12ha estate includes sprawling botanic gardens and creeks at 79 Basin-Olinda Rd, The Basin, is on the market with a $4m-$4.2m asking range. In 1873, original owners William and Kate Chandler established the property.

The vintage car museum was home to some rare and unique vehicles, some of which have been sold. Picture: Joanna Fincham. Across the past two decades, he and his wife hosted open days to raise funds for organisations like St John Ambulance and The Basin’s CFA brigade.
Como Gardens’ small locomotive and its five carriages, capable of carrying up to 30 passengers, will included in the sale. Mr Sullivan described the home as “one of a kind”. “There’s not many properties that have a 650m train line on them,” he said. The barn housed several historic objects of interest.
