A U.S.-bound cargo barge was reported taking on water near Bella Bella, B.C., while traveling from Alaska to Seattle. The Canadian Coast Guard confirmed that the vessel sustained hull damage, but it was not actively sinking, and there was no pollution reported. Alaska Marine Lines, the barge’s owner, stated another barge is on the way to transfer cargo and alleviate the situation. Concerns were raised by the Heiltsuk First Nation regarding the contents of the barge and the increase in such incidents in the area.
