Although OpenAI considered alerting authorities about concerning content in Van Rootselaar’s ChatGPT account, it ultimately did not meet the threshold for imminent harm. Investigators are reviewing digital evidence, including social media, to understand the motive behind the attack. Premier David Eby described the situation as “profoundly disturbing” and urged anyone with information to come forward.
