One Canadian province reported population decline, says StatCan

B.C. experienced a population decline of over 2,100 people in Q2 2025, the only province in Canada to do so, attributed to the expiration of temporary residents’ permits amidst the lowest birthrate in the country at 1.02 children per woman. Despite this decline, experts anticipate stabilization through immigration, which historically offsets low birthrates and contributes to economic activity.
