A transboundary flood initiative between B.C. and Washington, revived after severe flooding from the Nooksack River in November 2021, has yet to produce actionable solutions. Following recent floods exacerbated by atmospheric rivers, residents in Abbotsford and nearby U.S. communities have faced evacuations. While an agreement was signed in October 2023 to address flooding, no projects have been announced since. Everson’s mayor fears the initiative will falter like its predecessor, emphasizing the need for timely action and funding.
