41% of Canadians support doctors refusing MAID for religious reasons

A recent poll by ResearchCo has highlighted a significant divide among Canadians regarding Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID). The survey revealed that 41% of Canadians believe health-care professionals should be allowed to refuse to provide MAID services based on moral or religious objections, while 42% disagree, and 17% are uncertain. This represents a 5-point increase in support for the right to decline from a similar survey conducted in November 2022. Opposition is notably high in Alberta (47%) and among Canadians aged 55 and older (45%). Provincial guidelines require practitioners who object to MAID to refer patients to other providers.
